Location:
Big Sky Community Association is a master planned community located in Simi Valley. Big Sky Ranch was a popular ranch for filming shows such as Little House on the Prairie, Bonanza and Rawhide. The land was sold to housing developers in 2001. Big Sky is located at the far north end of Erringer Road tucked away in the beautiful canyons beneath the dramatic setting of Whiteface Mountain.
The community is masterfully designed around rolling hills and gorgeous natural terrain. A team of developers joined together to build this community of nearly 800 single family homes. This community was the combined efforts of Shea Homes, Standard Pacific Homes and D.R. Horton.
Recreation:
Recreation is a personal thing. For some it's kite-flying with the kids. Others it's day-hiking in the hills…or mountain biking across a ridgeline. Whatever type of recreation you enjoy, Big Sky is for families that thrive on being outdoors. The name of the community itself should be hint enough that the commanding views and natural surroundings are the ideal place to launch your next adventure. However, Big Sky is also close to the ski areas of Frasier Park and beyond. Of course if you prefer to jump in a boat, you'll be freeway close to the harbors of Oxnard and Ventura. And at Big Sky, there won't be a shortage of parks and playgrounds. Besides the many neighborhood parks and greenbelts, the community will play host to a public park operated by the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District. This proposed 15-acre park will consist of both passive and active recreational opportunities. It will also serve as the trailhead for hikes that reach out into the ridgelines surrounding the community.
Naturally, all the recreational opportunities that are inherent to the city of Simi Valley are only a short drive down the hill from Big Sky.
Schools:
One of the hidden luxuries of Big Sky are the schools your children will attend. Touted for years as one of the stronger school districts in the Southland, the Simi Valley Unified School District offers an outstanding education from elementary through high school. The city also has one adult school, one continuation school and three private high schools. In addition, there are 2 universities and two community colleges within commuting distance.
